Dayport scoops RTS Award19 November 2007
Dayport’s Encoding System together with Sky News has won a RTS (Royal Television Society) innovation award with the judges praising it as “…a classic piece of ‘under the bonnet’ technology.” The jointly developed Dayport /Sky News system has helped revolutionise the way Sky News produces digital video for multi-platform distribution, writes Adrian Pennington.
Dayport’s technology has freed up Sky’s journalists to concentrate on journalism rather than the technicalities of encoding and file transfer while allowing Sky News to take advantage of the business benefits and additional content publishing opportunities.
Head of Sky News John Ryley said: “Sky News has always been at the forefront of delivering breaking news to audiences in innovative ways. These RTS Innovation awards are a fantastic achievement and a tribute to our energy, creativity and pioneering spirit.”
“The RTS award is recognition that Dayport are market leaders in the field of addressing convergence from traditional broadcast production with the needs of on-line media,” added Dayport MD Andy Ioannou. “We believe that the RTS award is the European equivalent to a Technical Emmy. It goes to prove that the software systems Dayport is providing for broadcasters globally, are leading the way in terms of truly addressing the convergence needs of broadcasters, online consumer devices and portals.”
The RTS launched the Innovation Awards to recognise ‘outstanding achievement in the development of new technologies in video production, manipulation and distribution, and outstanding creativity in exploiting these developments in new forms of, and enhancement of, content.’
