Dalet plans to integrate Sports Factory with EVS5 April 2011
Dalet plans to integrate its new line of sports-oriented Media Asset Management systems with servers from EVS. At NAB Dalet will also announce that a major US sports network has ordered its Sports Factory product, writes Adrian Pennington.
Although details of the EVS integration for Dalet’s media asset management tools are a work in progress, Raoul Cospen, the company’s Director of Marketing (pictured) told Sports Broadcast Europe: “The idea is to use EVS servers in future. Our MAM is designed to work with Dalet Brio video servers and those of any major manufacturer.”
Cospen claimed that Dalet’s sports-specific MAM layer would enhance existing EVS sports production workflows. “Our MAM enables users to retain metadata associated with ISOs, shot and playlists, highlights and archives long after the actual production has finished. All material will be kept in the system and traceable which is not the case with existing equipment – even EVS systems need an additional MAM layer,” he explained.
“For example when an EVS slomotion operator marks in and out clips these shots and their metadata will automatically be saved into the Dalet database. The database retains all the log information, structured around sport-specific metadata, long after the event. This is not the case now since once an EVS operator leaves an outside broadcast there is no real log or metadata structure to back up what they have done.”
The Dalet Sports Factory is the fruit of last year’s acquisition of Italian company Gruppo TNT. Its TVHilites software is being used for highlights production and playback of sports at Italy’s Mediaset and Sky Italia. Dalet’s servers and Enterprise Edition MAM is in use at Fox Network’s Speed channel for delivery of sports VOD content.
NAB will represent the first end-to-end demonstration of the two technologies – Dalet Enterprise MAM and the Gruppo sports application – in action together in a new line dubbed Sports Factory.
“We are confident it will fulfil the new needs of sports production, which require powerful production tools, combined with strong metadata management; archive integration with extensive search; and multiplatform distribution capabilities," said Cospen. “With archives integrated in the production workflow, there is immediate access to content and metadata, whether you need the asset for today’s game or five years from now.”
