Dalet and AmberFin unite for NAB conference

On the eve of NAB’s tradeshow floor opening, Dalet Digital Media Systems announced that it had signed an agreement with Advent Venture Partners to acquire AmberFin. The acquisition aims to broaden Dalet’s product offerings, and to create end-to-end solutions that include comprehensive MAM capabilities along with image processing, media transcoding and distribution.

On the first day of the Show the companies presented a joint press conference, led by Raoul Cospen (pictured, left), director of marketing and business development, Dalet and Bruce Devlin (pictured, right), AmberFin’s chief technology officer.

Devlin said of the acquisition: “the thinking of the staff [of both companies] is very very similar,” and that “if you put the best of MAM and the best of media together, its pretty awesome.”

The couple also detailed new releases, including Dalet’s second generation application programming interface API2. Part of the Dalet Galaxy MAM platform, Cospen explained: “the platform is designed to be open, scalable, increasing productivity. It really focuses on the user experience.”

Dalet API2 offers developers a set of services ranging from asset, media, metadata and search to notifications, configuration and access rights.

AmberFin’s new releases included Adaptive Cadence Correction (ACC) a software-based system for correcting mixed cadence material back to 24p film and progressive HD video within file-based workflows. A showreel of examples was shown at the conference, which can be seen by visitors to the company’s booth at NAB.
