Chyron innovates workflow at the races11 January 2012
Graphics specialist Moov is working with sports production company Sunset+Vine on horse racing coverage for BBC Sport in a new contract. Part of the deal was an innovative approach to graphics, which Moov is implementing based on Chyron HyperX technology.
Moov has developed custom software to interface the Chyron on-air graphics system with external sources including PA Sport, the official provider of racing data in the UK. “In addition to providing the speed and reliability that are so very important on all live sports events, our Chyron systems offer valuable tools for integrating graphics and data smoothly,” said Duncan Foot, managing director at Moov.
“The new sequences we are developing require the manipulation of live video mapped to a 3D surface and this work – which looks amazing – really brings out the best features of the HyperX.”
During each race meeting the production team will use two Chyron HyperX systems connected to the racing database software, which means either machine can call up live betting and results graphics, or generate lower-third straps for interviews and other information.
One system will be used on the race coverage while the other is used for pre- and post-race content. For the biggest event in the UK race calendar, the Grand National at Aintree, Moov will add a third HyperX for graphics on the race replay.
