Channel 4, UKTV and BT Sport join TVBEurope 2020

Key figures from Channel 4, UKTV and BT Sport have been confirmed as part of the TVBEurope 2020 agenda.

Keith Underwood, director of strategy and technology, Channel 4 and Sinead Greenaway, director of operations and technology, UKTV will take part in panel discussions, whilst Andy Beale, chief engineer, BT Sport, will be providing a presentation on the UHD market.

Underwood will take part in the morning keynote panel ‘Who are the content stakeholders in an all IP world?’ The discussion will investigate issues such as how the traditional content ecosystem is changing to reflect the shift in consumer content consumption, whether creating original content is the future for the staying ahead of the competition, and what the future holds for content aggregation services.

A member of Channel 4’s executive committee, Underwood is responsible for corporate and technology strategy, broadcast operations, content management, IS services, and the technical development of C4’s digital products.

He is the chairman of Freeview and a board director of DUK, having also served as a board director of YouView.

UKTV’s Greenaway will take part in the final panel of the day, ‘Does new media technology deliver an acceptable ROI to broadcasters?’ She will be joined in the discussion by Russell Grute, managing partner, Broadcast Innovation; Joachim Bergman, head of playout and media management; and Tom Griffiths, director of broadcast and distribution technology, ITV.

The session will focus on the potential return on investment from crucial new technologies such as: web services, cloud, UHD, IP and MAM.

Greenaway joined UKT as director of technology and operations in February 2015. Tasked with driving a culture of operational excellence that will allow the company to innovate at pace on technology, and ultimately drive viewing and revenue.

She joined from The Lighthouse Company, where as managing director she was instrumental in building and developing board level teams across the media and technology spectrum.

BT Sport chief engineer Beale will be delivering a presentation on the state of the UHD market.

He is responsible for BT Sport’s broadcast technology and operations, including the design and build of the new studio complex at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford.

Having previously served as head of engineering at BT, Beale returned to the company in September 2012 after an eight-month stint as broadcast engineering and systems consultant at Timeline TV, where he was instrumental in delivering five new live sports channels and associated tapeless workflow solutions.

TVBEurope 2020 returns to BAFTA London for its second year on 28 June. The one-day strategy summit brings together broadcasters, content owners, service providers and manufacturers with the common goal of identifying the business-critical decisions that companies will have to make to remain relevant and profitable in a fully IP-enabled future.
