BXF Working Group assembles

23 July 2009

SMPTE’s BXF Working Group recently assembled in Austin TX to officially kick off BXF Phase II, which will produce the BXF 2.0 standard.

The original BXF standard, officially published last year, was established to create a common means for systems such as traffic, content management, content delivery, and automation to all talk together. BXF has continued to gain acceptance since its inception, is supported by most of the major broadcast software vendors, and is being implemented into more and more broadcast operation facilities every day.

As 2009 has demonstrated, technology and workflows are continually evolving to keep pace with the media evolution that is progressing in the broadcast market. That said, it is imperative for the BXF standard to evolve with the ever-changing market. “As a team, we are committed to deliver new efficiencies to our clients and partners,” said Jamie Meyer, VP product development, VCI Solutions and Charter Member of the SMPTE BXF Working Group. “Thus, we are adamant that we keep our finger on the pulse with regards to market changes and continue to establish and deliver BXF enhancements that make a positive impact in operational workflows.”

“We are excited to have officially kicked off the next phase of BXF 2.0,” said Chris Lennon, director, integration and standards, Harris Corporation, and Chair of SMPTE’s BXF Working Group. “BXF has been a real success story already, only just over a year since its publication. We look forward to capitalising on this and taking things to the next level for our industry with BXF 2.0.”
