Bulgarian broadcaster selects MOG centralised ingest system

26 May 2011

No fewer than 15 MOG Technologies’ mxfSPEEDRAIL units have been installed at the facilities of bTV as the prominent Bulgarian private broadcaster migrates its archive and news production processes to a flexible and completely tapeless system.

The mxfSPEEDRAIL units are used for SDI recording, file-based ingest and publishing of media directly from bTV’s editing islands. MOG’s HD/SDI recorder, mxfSPEEDRAIL S1000, allows bTV to digitise its tape archive into the AVC-Intra high-quality video codec, allowing immediate editing of the material during digitisation. Working in parallel with S1000, MOG’s mxfSPEEDRAIL F1000 provides a centralised approach to ingest. Once the ingest process has been completed, the files are nomralised into AVID OPAtom format, which enables content distribution to editing and archive systems.

Upon editing in the Avid suite, the EDL sequences are directly stitched and published by mxfSPEEDRAIL O1000. Working in the background to free up the editor, O1000 publishes the media directly to playout video server as MXF O1PA and to bTV’s website as MPEG-4/H.264 files.

The mxfSPEEDRAIL integration – which was carried out by Bulcomp – means that bTV has also gained the ability to control operations remotely from the video editor stations, without the need to use any extra automation equipment.

“bTV was looking for a turn-key solution able to cover all the main production workflow processes,” said bTV technical director Peter Dimitrov. “With mxfSPEEDRAIL centralised solutions we were able to upgrade our facilities to a faster, flexible and reliable HD workflow system. MOG’s system covered all of our major needs: recording SDI feeds, ingesting all major formats and publishing the media files directly to our website. Besides covering all our technical requirements, mxfSPEEDRAIL also presented itself as the most cost-effective solution.”

“We are delighted that bTV has selected the whole mxfSPEEDRAIL product family to guarantee a high quality and seamless workflow integration with Avid, both in the news environment and archive areas,” said Vitor Teixeira, marketing & sales director at MOG Technologies.
