Bakery Relight software in IBC debut9 September 2011
The Bakery’s interactive, all-in-one 3D lighting, shading and rendering software for the high-end computer graphics market was created to streamline/accelerate CG workflows and enhance the artistic process on flat and stereoscopic 3D animated and live action/visual effects feature films and TV series, writes Michael Burns.
The software consists of an interactive lighting application, a rendering engine, and a set of auxiliary tools for efficiently managing the entire lighting process.
“What we want people to understand is that Relight is not just a renderer with a nice interface for interactive lighting and shading,” said Bakery co-founder and CEO, Erwan Maigret. “It’s actually a complete 3D application suite, based on a strong scene graph with dependency tracking and dynamic scripted extensions. In addition, all modules in Relight are plug-in based, and can be developed by independent contributors.”
The software is fully portable and the company claims it will work on any operating system, with any hardware. According to The Bakery, Relight can run on a Windows laptop, on a Linux graphic workstation, or on a render node, with the same result guaranteed.
“Bakery Relight’s powerful scene graph and integrated scripted and C++ extensions are now starting to be used to address general pipeline developments and production asset management systems,” added Maigret, whose credits include technical lead on Shrek 2, Madagascar and Shrek the Third.
