The ATP has partnered with ATP Media, Infosys and Sony Professional Solutions Europe to deliver live coverage of the ATP World Tour Finals in virtual reality.

Available until 20 November, visitors to the Fan Zone at The O2 will be able to step into “unique interactive pods” featuring PlayStation VR.

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals Experience “adds a completely new dimension to watching a match and makes it possible for fans to live the game like never before.” It features a combination of real court images, TV match coverage and virtual environments. The user is presented with a reactive and customisable environment, using both headset tracking and physical controller interaction.

Data insights and visualisations from Infosys and Hawk-Eye provide in-depth context as the match unfolds, alongside additional social media streams.

Shane Warden, ATP Media director of technology and broadcast, said, “PlayStation VR is an incredible product and we knew it would help us to achieve this goal thanks to its simple to use and intuitive operation.

“We wanted to replicate the feeling of being there and create an augmented experience that lets fans engage and interact with the finals on screen in a way they never could before.”

Stuart Watts, ATP Media COO, added, “We are delighted to be demonstrating our continued commitment in advancing media and technology.”

“We have created not only the potential for an exciting complimentary product for broadcasters but one that can easily be delivered on-venue at fan and sponsor activation sites.”
