Android support for connected TV14 September 2013
Interactive TV middleware developer Beenius is demonstrating its new Android-based set-top box client in Amsterdam this week and said the product will provide greater choice to operators and their customers by supporting the move towards connected TV.
The Android app extends Beenius’ Beesmart interactive TV middleware platform, and enables operators to benefit from the lower deployment costs of the Android operating system to provide customised, scalable services through IPTV, OTT and hybrid cable on all devices.
Customers are therefore able to access the same 1 million-plus apps that are available on their Android tablets and smartphones through their Google Play accounts. The Android STB client means they can play a full range of games, access services, listen to music and read books and magazines through their TV. At the same time they can stay connected by sharing through social networks using BeeSocial TV.
“Consumers continually expect more from operators – demanding greater choice and a joined up approach that brings together all devices in the connected home,“ said Marko Hiti, Beenius CTO.
The Android STB client features Beenius’ new Chameleon interface, which is also being launched at this week’s IBC.
