Dr David Wood to receive Lifetime Achievement honour at TVBAwards

Dr David Wood is to be honoured in recognition of his outstanding career in the broadcast industry.

Dr David Wood, one of the industry’s most respected and popular figures, is to be honoured at the inaugural TVBAwards in October, in recognition of his outstanding career in the broadcast industry.

The former deputy technical director of the EBU and current chair of the World Broadcasting Union’s Technical Committee was the unanimous choice of the TVBAwards judging panel to receive the marquee Lifetime Achievement award.

“The whole purpose of the TVBAwards is to recognise the outstanding contributors to our industry, and David is widely acknowledged as being one of the finest,” said TVBEurope’s executive editor, James McKeown. “We are truly delighted to be able to highlight David’s personal contribution to the development and education of the broadcast industry in this way.”

On learning of his honour, Dr Wood told TVBEurope, “Someone is smiling down on me. I’ve been lucky enough to be in the right place when decisions on broadcasting standards were taken, and I’m really honoured to receive this award. We are in the most fascinating business there is. Getting this award is like the Bette Davis Movie All This and Heaven Too.”

Dr Wood will receive his Lifetime Achievement award at the TVBAwards ceremony on Thursday 23 October, at the Hilton London Wembley. Tickets are now on sale from the TVBAwards website.
